Digital Strategy Officer — The Break Down

About the role

Digital

 You will support The Break Down’s publishing and digital output by: 

  • Processing uploads of text and audiovisual content to The Break Down website using a CMS (Webflow) ensuring publications are on time and checking for errors.
  • Supporting the production and dissemination (via MailChimp/Substack) of newsletters and other content. 
  • Supporting the development and management of new subscription streams for written and audio/visual content, such as Patreon and Substack.

Social Media

You will deliver the day-to-day social media obligations for The Break Down including:   

  • Managing social media accounts, including drafting posts and other content for Bluesky, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and other platforms as needed.
  • Identifying key stories and concepts for social media output, including through monitoring relevant climate and environmental news.
  • Helping to draft insightful and engaging social media content that breaks down complex ideas and current events for general audiences.
  • Producing social media design assets, including quote cards, infographics, videos and charts.  
  • Producing website design assets from existing templates, working with Common Wealth’s Senior Designer.  
  • Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of The Break Down’s social media output and impact, identifying opportunities for growth and improvement.
  • Contributing to The Break Down’s longer term digital and social media strategy, including suggesting new platforms, forms of content, campaigns etc.

Project Management   

Support the timely and impactful delivery of The Break Down’s outputs by assisting with planning and delivery of social and digital media, including:  

  • Contributing to project development by feeding into the digital and social media vision for The Break Down’s outputs.  
  • Working respectfully and productively with colleagues within The Break Down, and Common Wealth teams, as well as with external partners and contacts.

Events

Support The Break Down’s forthcoming events programme by:   

  • Organising and managing livestreams and social media for events. 
  • Supporting event planning, such as live podcast recordings, launch events etc.  

 NB. The Break Down is a small and dynamic initiative, so from time to time there will be a  requirement to undertake tasks across different areas, within reason.
