Jet Set Go: The Case for Electric-Only UK Private Jet Flights from 2025
Jet Set Go: The Case for Electric-Only UK Private Jet Flights from 2025
Executive Summary
This report co-published with the campaign group A Free Ride investigates private jet travel and its impacts on climate crisis, arguing for a ban on fossil-fuel private aircrafts from using UK airports by the year 2025.
Nowhere is carbon inequality more evident than private jet ownership. An average private jet journey within Europe emits 10 times as much greenhouse gases as the same journey made by an economy class flight, and roughly 150 times more than an equivalent high speed train journey.
Climate crisis is driven by the wealthiest in our society, and continues to have the strongest consequences for society's most vulnerable. Putting pressure on those who fly in fossil-fueled private jets – who tend to have access to private capital – would accelerate electricaerospace sector R&D. This would help create green jobs and cement UK industry leadership in electric flight.
